Week 2
At the start of second week we spoke to out tutor and presented the research to him to get
some feedback and some suggestions on what to do next. We looked at some student
organisations such as NUS – National Union of Students which is responsible for how
students are treated within the country. We looked at them because they were not present
during the open day of the freshers week. They had no stand and we didn’t understand
why. They are there to make sure we have the best time studying over the years and due
to their absence we though about changing this and doing something about it. Therefore
concentrating on NUS for this project was the our next objective.
As a group we started to discuss what is our next step towards the project. We discussed
different ways to make nus more appealing. We discussed ways to improve existing one
and one of the way was to look at some of the cards that we have in our wallets already
and look for features that make it stand out. Cards like hsbc debit card or oyster card did
really stand out thanks to its colours and logo. Other reasons for this card to stand is
because millions of people use them in their daily lives and because both cards are
supported by a wide rage of advertising that surrounds us.
from the discussions about the cards that we have arranged to design a few drafts of
cards, logos and posters for Monday to have something to work from.
Last thing we did for the day was to compile a list of questions about nus like "do you have
nus card" the reason behind this questionnaire was to collect some data about how many
students in the college have got nus and how many don’t. Also to ask their opinion about
nus logo.
The results showed us that 18 people don’t have nus card but they did heard about but
either they didn’t wants to pay for it or could not bother to get one which tells us that the
card itself does not offer much apart from its discount. Also everyone we asked said that
the logo was boring or could use more styling to it.
